Kabale. The Kabale High Court kicked off a criminal session of 40 cases. His Worship Samuel Emokor, the Deputy Registrar in charge of Kabale High Court said the criminal session is going to be handled by the Resident Judge Kabale, Hon. Justice Kazibwe Moses Kawumi.
The session is expected to last 40 days and will tackle 40 cases which include; 25 murder cases, five defilement cases, two kidnap cases and eight rape cases.
During the opening ceremony of the session, at the Kabale High Court, Hon. Justice Kazibwe urged the prosecutors to fast track cases that needed to benolleprosequi(formal notice of abandonment by a prosecutor of all or part of a suit). He said these will be tackled alongside the cause-listed cases.
He further appealed to the prisons authorities to notify him of inmates who want to plead guilty,in exchange for a lenient sentence, even if they are not cause listed.
Holding regular court sessions is one of the strategies put in place by the Judiciary to address case backlog. As at the close of June, Kabale High Court had 757 cases pending.
